My name’s Greg. I’m from Ireland, and I’m a native speaker of English. I’ve been teaching English in Poland since 2007. I love it here, and Kraków is now my home. I really admire how motivated Polish students are.
I have a degree in French and Latin from University College Dublin, a master’s degree in Latin, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education in French and Latin from University College Cork and a RELSA Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. I’ve taught English, Latin and French in Ireland, Latin in Oxford and English in Poland.
I’ve always been fascinated by languages and language learning. I’ve studied Polish to proficiency level and have a postgraduate diploma in translation from the Jagiellonian University. I’ve worked as a translator and text editor/proofreader. At the moment, I’m learning Spanish at upper intermediate level. It’s good for a language teacher to keep learning new languages. It gives us a different perspective and helps us to see things from the student’s point of view. I know the great feeling of satisfaction when we can say what we want to say. I know that this takes time and hard work, but it’s great when we make progress. Whenever I help someone to develop their skills, it makes me really happy.
Over the years, I’ve used a range of textbooks, but I also use a lot of authentic materials like news articles, short films and interactive games. I’ll make sure you can talk about things that you find interesting and that are important for you. I’m passionate about grammar, and I love teaching it in a way that helps you to express yourself. I’m always thinking about how we learn new vocabulary, especially with the use of interesting context. I’m very patient and give a lot of encouragement. I know that whenever we make a mistake, it helps us to learn. Step by step, we can go very far.
